3 AROMATHERAPY RECIPES FOR TRAVELLING
BY: SIMONE REITBERGER
Wow ! It’s been a crazy couple of years as the world adjusted to Covid pandemic, lockdowns, curfews, masks and social distancing. But as the world opens up to domestic and international travel we need to consider and protect more than ever our immune and nervous systems. So please read about my last travel experience and the essential oil recipes that will support you on long haul flights. Enjoy!
It was 4 years ago that I went to London and Milan within 10 days which involved over 50 hours of flight time from Melbourne, Australia. So last minute and such a stressful time to organize the kids, dog and house in a week before I left. But what an exciting adventure.
I overcame my anxiety of travelling by myself in a big city and discovered wonderful places to eat that supported my beliefs in organic, wholefoods and sustainability. I met up with some incredible people doing great things. I saw 4 West End London Musicals that brought me to tears, moved me emotionally and got me dancing in the aisles. It was go, go , go.
However the flights increased my body’s susceptibility to dis-ease and my feet swelled, I was dehydrated and bloated from the food. My skin felt dry and broke out. My lips became chapped and my sleep patterns were disrupted with jet lag. But by integrating Aromatherapy blends with simple techniques and having an understanding of the various therapeutic properties I required, I knew how to treat each situation with my aromatic tools that I’m going to share with you.
Your body will thank you for it.
So let’s be prepared.
Facial Mist
RECIPE
100 ml bottle
Water/ Neroli hydrosol
1 teaspoon Vodka
💧20 drops Neroli (Citrus aurantium)
💧20 drops Sweet Orange (Citrus aurantium)
💧10 drops Cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica)
Besides smelling divine, it soothed my nerves and refreshed my skin but also helped as it is a gentle antibacterial from all the germs around on flights.
This was a life saver as I can’t stand the chemical ridden environment of planes, the smells of neighbours and the lack of fresh air for such a long periods of time. Let alone the germs that are flying around with so many people in such a condensed space.
The woman (a nurse) next to me was absolutely delighted with my aromatic tools and has become a new aromatherapy enthusiast eager to learn more to integrate somehow into the hospital back home.
Yay baby.
Facial Serum
To nourish and protect my dehydrated skin
RECIPE
25 ml/30 oz bottle with dropper
💧10 ml/12 oz Avocado Oil
💧10 ml/12 oz Hemp Seed Oil
💧5 ml/6 oz Rose Hip Oil
Then I would add 6 drops from The Essential Collection – LOVE BLEND~ ORGANIC.
This Essential Oil blend of LOVE nurtures a deep appreciation for beauty and relationships. A blend for love, play and celebration.
Otherwise use Essential Oils to suit your skin type.
Body Protector
This is my version of the infamous
Mile High Club Aroma Style.
I’d go to the toilets halfway into the flight ( or after the main meal- whichever came first ) and take off my tops and begin moisturizing my neck, chest and arms in long sweeping movements.
Then in clockwise motion work my stomach area.
This helped alleviate excess gas, bloating and helped support my digestion.
Then I after dressing I would remove my pants and sit on the toilet and work my legs. Once again long sweeping movements.
Working my feet and concentrating on my calves.
This is especially important to do to prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT ) as my legs and feet were swollen with fluid retention caused by the lack of oxygen in the air. I spent as much time as possible doing this and was kinda interesting when we hit turbulence.
RECIPE
💧100 ML plant based organic vegetable oil
💧50 drops of pre blended Oils from THE ESSENTIAL COLLECTION/ Detox Blend ~ Organic
Otherwise I suggest
LET IT GO
💧 20 drops Grapefruit
💧10 drops Peppermint
💧10 drops Sandalwood
💧10 drops Cypress
♥ TIP Remember to request vegetarian food during your flight as meat takes way too long to digest and overloads your already stressed out digestive system.
♥ TIP After each meal walk around as long as possible to support your digestion.
♥ TIP Create a meditation playlist to listen to. This will allow your body to adjust to the altitude and pressure of the cabin.
♥ TIP Take your own nutrient dense snacks.
