ANXIETY + YOU
TO DEAL WITH
ANXIETY
anxiety
aŋˈzʌɪəti/
noun
noun: anxiety; plural noun: anxieties
- a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome.
Mirriem +Webster
May be triggered by a past trauma, a fear perceived in our minds about something or someone, or even an inappropriate response to a situation.
There is so much unknown about this condition and the extent that it affects each individual varies, from a mild case where you may feel ‘butterflies’ about going out to meet some friends or a more severe case that debilitates you from not engaging in daily life, you may even get anxious getting on an airplane for the fear of flying.
The increased tension, apprehension, worry and fear are very real for someone who suffers from anxiety .
Physical symptoms include palpitations, sweating, insomnia, increased perspiration, muscle tension, nervousness and increased blood pressure are experienced to varying degrees.
AROMATHERAPY & Essential Oils
Aromatherapy works via 2 main systems-
1 the integumentary system (skin) through massage and topical applications of Essential Oils ,
2 the olfactory system – (smell) is via the limbic system which is a part of the hypothalamus in the brain that deals with moods, emotions, anger, sex, fear, memories, hunger and hormones.
ESSENTIAL OILS
Essential Oils are made up of chemical constituents that indicate their therapeutic effects on the body and mind.
Selecting Essential Oils with higher amounts of Esters as they create a relaxing effect on the para sympathetic nervous system.
An aromatherapy strategy would be to select Essential Oils with the following therapeutic properties-
Anti- spasmodic, up-lifting, relaxants
1.Bergamot
2.Lavender
3.Neroli
4.Roman Chamomile
5.Frankincense
*Keep in mind this is not a definitive list but a guide to begin with. I also use oxygenating, ‘opening’ and ‘expansive’ oils as to assist with the breath, deepening and lengthening the breath allows for graeter relaxation by releasing stress in the body.
